it was late evening 21 years ago... driving to Westside Hospital in Nashville TN and someone thinking they were gonna give birth in the car... kind of exclaiming and proclaiming more than screaming... (the screaming that terrorized poor little SER came later... as Sarah Boyce escourted SER out of the birthing room...)
:)
so we get to the hospital, THANKFUL, that the birth didn't occur in the car on the way, to find out that dilation was about 10% and not the 99% it felt like...
I remember the look on someone's face when they echoed "only TEN PERCENT !!!"
and as they say, that was, "In the beginning..."

Awww...I don't think I've ever heard that story before...Sarah
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteyou'll have to ask your mom about it... so exciting... it was more like an athletic event than painful screaming... there was your mom, a really nice young experienced nurse from NJ, our young female doctor, a female photographer friend of your mom's and myself... I wish we had an audio tape of us all cheering and yelling and encouraging your mom... it was UNREAL... such carrying on as you can't imagine... it was really good that Sarah Boyce was there to take you out of the room... you were too young to understand and participate at such a spectacle...
love,
Dad
Sarah,
ReplyDeletemaybe you meant the part about on the way...
your mom kept saying can't I drive faster etc... she was SURE she was gonna have LUCY in the car...
I don't remember how many hours of labor it was, but I would think from late PM til early AM... don't remember what time Lucy was born, but I'm guessing several hours labor...
anyway, we get there with your mom thinking she's gonna have a baby in the parking lot or hallway etc. etc. etc. and then when the DR gets there, your mom couldn't believe she was only 10% of the way there... it was pretty funny...
Dad
